+1 Speed Squirrel Escape: how the game actually works
The loop in one page — treadmill for speed, obstacle stages for wins, wins for tails, rebirth for worlds.
The loop
Four things feed each other. You stand on a treadmill to gain speed and levels. Speed lets you clear obstacle stages. Clearing stages pays wins. Wins buy tails, which make the next stretch faster. When your level is high enough you rebirth, which trades your progress for a permanent speed multiplier and unlocks the next world.
The tutorial walks you through it and does not let you skip the first rebirth. In one clip the player collects two wins and the game immediately prompts "tap to rebirth" before releasing the tutorial.
Everything on this page was taken from public playthrough videos of the game, listed on our home page under Community clips. We have written down what the players did and what the game showed them. Where a number was read off a shop or a menu in a clip we say so; where we are inferring, we say that instead of dressing it up as fact.
The treadmill is the engine, not the obstacle course
It is tempting to treat the stages as the game and the treadmill as a chore. The clips show the opposite. Players who stall on a stage go back to the treadmill, level up, and then walk the same stage without changing anything else.
One player puts it plainly after buying an upgraded treadmill: "Now, if we go on the treadmill, we should level up even faster. There we go. Which also means that we could rebirth."
Recommended levels are a suggestion
Stages carry a recommended level. In the clips those numbers are routinely beaten from below — a stage marked level 25 cleared at 17, a stage marked level 40 cleared at 26.
So a recommendation you cannot meet is a reason to try, not a wall. What actually stops a run is a specific obstacle you cannot time, and more speed sometimes makes that worse rather than better. See the gliding guide for the case where speed is the problem.
What we have not checked
How many stages each world holds, whether stage layouts are fixed or shuffled, and whether anything in the game is competitive between the players in a server. Servers hold ten people in the clips we watched and nobody interacts with anyone else, but that is an absence of evidence, not evidence of absence.
